Merino wool

HIGH-TECH FROM NATURE

The merino wool sheep has proven to be one of the most resilient sheep when it comes to freezing cold or unbearable heat - following the principle of “survival of the fittest”, we are expanding our range with base layers made from the natural power fiber merino wool - mulesing free, of course. Merino base layers form an ideal basis for the perfect layering system, as the fiber quickly wicks away moisture, ensures a natural body climate and inhibits the development of odors.

Merino wool is surprisingly durable, especially when cared for properly. It is naturally resistant to odors and dirt, which means it needs to be washed less often and its lifespan is extended.

Merino wool is characterized by several special properties:

  • Softness: It is softer than conventional wool and does not itch.
  • Temperature regulation: It keeps the body warm in the cold and cool in the heat.
  • Moisture management: It can absorb up to 30% of its own weight in moisture without feeling wet.
  • Odor control: It has natural antimicrobial properties that reduce odors.
  • Breathability: It allows the skin to breathe and regulates the body climate.
  • UV protection: It offers natural protection against UV rays.

Compared to synthetic fibers, merino wool offers better odor neutrality and more natural temperature regulation. Although synthetic fibers dry faster and are often more robust, they can absorb odors more easily and are not as pleasant on the skin as merino wool.

Merino wool is ideal for functional clothing because it provides excellent insulation, is moisture-wicking and odor-resistant, which is particularly beneficial for sporting activities and outdoor adventures. Its ability to regulate temperature ensures that the wearer feels comfortable regardless of the weather conditions.

Merino wool is generally hypoallergenic and is better tolerated by people with sensitive skin than conventional wool. The fine and soft fibres minimize the risk of skin irritation.

During physical activity, merino wool helps to regulate body temperature and wick sweat away from the skin. This prevents the wearer from cooling down after sweating and keeps them dry and comfortable.

Mulesing is a painful procedure in which flaps of skin are removed from around the sheep's tail to prevent fly maggot infestation. "Mulesing-free ” means that this method is not used. It is important as it prevents cruelty to animals and contributes to more ethical and animal-friendly production practices. Consumers who look for mulesing-free wool are supporting the humane treatment of sheep.

Merino wool is a renewable and biodegradable fiber. The sheep are shorn annually, which does not harm them, and the fiber can be completely broken down in nature after its life cycle, making it more environmentally friendly than many synthetic alternatives.
